Just the beginning..
Two friends deciding to grow a dream into a reality
We have been trying to find a way to merge our passions for a while: creativity and social justice. As educators we have had the experience and fortune to facilitate workshops, sessions and dialogues with our community around inclusion and equity. However, we realize that while important, this approach is one dimensional, linear, if you will. Social Justice is not just a concept to be learned but one to be embodied/ felt/seen/ heard/connected with. To change the world we have to begin with ourselves. But if the concept feels so out of reach how can we make tangible change? So, then we started to think about building relationships and connections through art, writing, dance, song, all creative mediums. We aim to find those creatives that integrate social justice into their work to relay a message in ways that can touch their audiences in different ways. Provoke introspection and a self-examination of what we believe and why we believe it. What we are hoping to do is create an approach that engages the heart and empathy as much as the mind and through that engagement to inspire more people to work toward a more just and inclusive world.
With this endeavor we hope to bring art, activism, social justice, and creativity to you in ways that make you want to connect with the artist, the cause, and/or a movement. The creation of art, poetry, music and dance are not only meant to entertain, they are also meant to be felt, to inspire, to liberate. Our hope is that you will be inspired, as we have been to act, to move, and create!
Note: When we refer to "art" we are not only talking about traditional forms of art and creativity, but also new forms that can be found in technology, media, and design.

Solo el Comienzo… Dos colegas deciden hacer crecer un sueño en una realidad
Por un tiempo hemos estado tratando de encontrar una manera de unir nuestras pasiones: la creatividad y la justicia social. Como educadores hemos tenido la experiencia y la fortuna de facilitar talleres, sesiones y diálogos con nuestra comunidad en torno a la inclusión y la equidad. Sin embargo, nos damos cuenta de que aunque es importante, este enfoque es unidimensional, lineal. La justicia social no es sólo un concepto que hay que aprender, sino uno para ser encarnado / sentido / visto / oído / conectado. Para cambiar el mundo tenemos que empezar por nosotros mism@s. Pero si el concepto se siente tan fuera de alcance ¿cómo podemos hacer cambios tangibles? Entonces, empezamos a pensar en construir relaciones y conexiones a través del arte, la escritura, la danza, la canción, todos los medios creativos. Nuestro objetivo es encontrar distintas creatividades que integran la justicia social en su trabajo para retransmitir este mensaje de manera que pueda tocar a su público de diferentes maneras. Provocar la introspección y un auto-examen de lo que creemos y por qué lo creemos. Lo que esperamos hacer es crear un enfoque que involucre el corazón y la empatía tanto como la mente ya través de ese compromiso para inspirar a más personas a trabajar hacia un mundo más justo e inclusivo.
Con este esfuerzo esperamos reunir el arte, el activismo, la justicia social, y la creatividad en maneras que le hacen querer conectar con l@s artista, la causa, y/o un movimiento. La creación del arte, la poesía, la música y la danza no sólo están destinadas a entretener, sino también a sentirse, a inspirar, a liberar. ¡Nuestra esperanza y deseo es que se inspiren, como hemos estado para actuar, para moverse, y para crear!
Nota: Cuando nos referimos al "arte" no solo hablamos de formas tradicionales de arte y creatividad, sino también de nuevas formas que pueden encontrarse en la tecnología, los medios y el diseño.
